Harman (Honigberg in german) is a small village located just 10 kilometers from Brasov. It is home to one of Transylvania’s must-see medieval monuments, the Harman Fortified Church. The church is one of the best-preserved fortifications used centuries ago when enemy attacks were a constant threat.
Harman has a long history dating back to the early ages. In 1211, King Andrew II of Hungary gave the Teutonic Knights the area of Burzenland (Țara Bârsei, in romanian). However, their rule was short-lived, ending just a several years later. In 1240, the Hungarian king donated Harman, along with other churches, to the Cistercian Abbey of Carta. This document is the earliest written record of Harman and its church, dating back to 21 March 1240. It was written 15 years after King Andrew II of Hungary had expelled the Teutonic Knights from these lands by force of arms.
Harman is a town that exudes historical allure and a welcoming atmosphere, serving as a testament to the timeless charm of Transylvanian towns. Whether you are a history buff, a nature lover, or seeking a tranquil escape, Harman invites you to immerse yourself in its enchanting ambiance and create memories that will last a lifetime.
